The University of Zurich has made the strategic decision to create the
University Research
Priority Program (URPP): "Finance and Financial Markets".
The new interdisciplinary projects realised by the URPP will strengthen
the image of the University of Zurich as a centre of knowledge and research
as well as a source of awareness for the financial community of the city.
Objective
The aim of the University Research Priority Program "Finance and
Financial Markets" (hereafter referred to as URPP Finance) is, on
the one hand, to analyse interactions between financial markets and macro-economy
and, on the other hand, to link new areas and approaches to finance, such
as behavioural sciences, ethics and law with traditional methods of financial
markets theory and to conduct an interdisciplinary research. From this
basic research, numerous applications in various areas will result. These
include financial markets regulation, retirement provisions, corporate
finance, asset pricing and asset management.
Interdisciplinarity
The URPP Finance of the University of Zurich combines various faculties
of the University to create an expert and comprehensive interdisciplinary
body. Interdisciplinarity will be achieved through interactions of finance
with fields such as psychology, philosophy, economy etc.
Research Positioning
By means of the projects planned in the URPP Finance, scientific as well
as practical and politically relevant issues will be explored. Regarding
the scientific side, publications in leading internationally renowned
journals as well as the composition of first-class dissertations is the
goal. To achieve this, an effective transfer of knowledge through the
organisation of conferences, discussions and other specific activities,
will be carried through.
Main Topics for the Research Projects
The URPP operates, in total, five main topics for the research projects:
- Behavioural Finance Aspects of Portfolio Management
- Corporate Finance
- Law, Regulation and Finance
- Financial Aspects in Macroeconomics
- Quantitative Finance
